Education across the United States is inequitable. Unfortunately, not all students have access to the same high quality of education, resulting in deep systemic learning divides, often based on race, class, geography, and socioeconomic status. The recent global pandemic has only exacerbated these deep and persistent learning divides. However, maker-centered learning strategies, implemented in all levels of education, in and out-of-school time, are helping to bridge the chasm of learning, providing culturally and community-relevant real-world applications of knowledge and an engaging and impactful way to stem the gap. The featured panelists will discuss and showcase the ways their organizations have used making within their communities to bridge learning divides that were exacerbated during the pandemic.
